About
The Captive Care Subcommittee (CCSC) is focused on the management and study of primates in captivity, including in zoos, sanctuaries and laboratories. The subcommittee promotes and develops the husbandry, welfare and health of captive primates and advances the understanding of primates' biology, behaviour, cognition and reproduction through the study of captive primates.
The CCSC administers the PSGB captive care grants which fund scientific research, educational activities and training in all aspects of captive primate care.

Current projects
The CCSC administers the PSGB’s captive care grants, the next deadline of which is 1st March 2025. A key piece of work for the committee at the moment is contributing to the development of a licensing regime for privately kept primates in England. Several members of the committee have roles in the associated expert groups, but the PSGB is a leading voice in responding to calls for specialist advice and to public consultations.
The CCSC is additionally working to strengthen links with the zoo and laboratory sectors, to promote PSGB membership and ensure the Society reflects the diversity of primatology. We are planning specific Captive Care Symposiums at forthcoming meetings to share the science behind captive care and are strengthening the reach of our grant scheme.
