What is the Field Skills Workshop?

The Field Skills Workshop is a 3-day workshop aimed to develop theory and practice in field skills. This Workshop is aimed at providing access, learning, and opportunities to develop and practice field skills, aimed at those who may have economic, time, or other constraints that might prevent them from being able to gain these skills in other ways.

Who is it for?
The workshop is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career or further education in animal behaviour or a related field (e.g. conservation, policy) who have historically been under-represented in this field due to financial and opportunity barriers. This may include, but is not limited to, students who identify as part of one of the following groups: care experienced students, students with disabilities, estranged students, forced migrant students, mature students, students with caring responsibilities, and racialised students.

What will I learn?
We will cover the following topics through a mix of lectures, group work, and observations of animals in the ZSL collection: behavioural data collection, conservation science, research design, logistics, ethics, current tools for remote data collection.

When and where will the field school be hosted?
The next PSGB Field Skills Workshop will be advertised here. We aim to run the workshop every 1-2 years.

Support
This workshop is organised by the PSGB Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee, chaired by Nicola Koyama. If you have any queries, please get in touch by emailing [email protected].
