The Primate Society of Great Britain (PSGB) is a UK learned society (Registered Charity No. 290185) affiliated to the International Primatological Society (IPS) and the European Federation for Primatology (EFP).'
PSGB was founded in 1967 to promote research into all aspects of primate biology, conservation and management. If you would like to consult the PSGB archives or donate PSGB documents or memorabilia to them, please contact the Society Archivist, Dr Mary Blanchard, University of Liverpool (email@example.com).
The Society is very strong scientifically and holds regular scientific meetings. Its Research Working Party awards general grants to support high quality research. It also awards several medals to mark individual contributions to primatology.
Primate Eye is the PSGB journal, and the Society has also adopted Folia Primatologica as another official PSGB publication.
PSGB has a strong commitment to primate conservation. Its conservation appeal, coordinated by the Conservation Working Party, supports a nominated primate cause each year. The Conservation Working Party also awards grants to support primate conservation.
The Society’s Captive Care Working Party works in close association with the Conservation Working Party and considers all issues that relate to the use, maintenance and breeding of primates in captivity. It awards grants to support research that benefits primate welfare in captivity, and to assist education projects about captive primate welfare.
PSGB has formal collaborative links with the Anatomical Society and also occasionally hosts collaborative meetings with other like-minded organisations such as ASAB and the Mammal Society.
PSGB is a member organisation. Council and the Working Parties are always looking for volunteers to serve on Working Parties, stand for election to Council, organise meetings, lend a hand with marketing, fundraising and publicity, write articles for Primate Eye, and many other things. Get in touch, get involved and donate some time to your Society! Contact the President (firstname.lastname@example.org) or General Secretary (email@example.com) for more information.
